Salt Lake Bees 13, Portland Beavers 6
The Bees improved a franchise best 10-1 behind an efficient attack from the offense. The Bees had 13 runs on 14 hits, while the Beavers only managed 6 runs on 17 hits. Nick Green allowed 12 hits, but only 3 runs. On the other hand, Beavers starter Arturo Lopez allowed 6 hits & 8 runs in less than 3 innings, while walking 6 batters. Not a very good day for him. Meanwhile, Dirk Hayhurst, who replaced Lopez, allowed 5 runs on 7 hits in just over 3 innings of work. For the Bees, Rafael Rodriguez allowed 3 runs in 0.2 innings after Green was replaced.
Sandoval had four singles and a double with four runs batted in to key a fifteen hit attack. Salt Lake trailed 2-1 when they sent twelve batters to the plate in a seven run inning to take control of the game. Terry Evans tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Matt Brown’s RBI double gave Salt Lake a 3-2 lead. Later, Adam Pavkovich drove in two runs with a single and scored as he stole home on the front end of a double steal with Ryan Budde, who had singled in a run.
Chase Headley went 2-5, but struck out 3 times. For the Bees, Green went 7 innings and struck out 6. And considering the 12 hits he gave up (including 1 homer), 3 runs is good. Freddy Sandoval had the aforementioned 5-5 with 4 RBI day. Bradley Coon only went 1-4, but he walked twice and scored 3 runs. Matt Brown went 1-4 with an RBI and a run, while Brandon Wood went 0-2 but walked 3 times. Sean Rodriguez, Adam Pavkovich and Ryan Budde each finished with 2 hits and 2 runs scored, and Pavkovich also had 2 RBI. All 9 offensive starting players for the Bees had at least 1 run scored or 1 RBI.
The series finale is tomorrow afternoon at Franklin Covey, with the Bees sending Nick Adenhart back to the mound.
